If you're looking for a quick and healthy lunch that’s full of flavor, these Ground Turkey Lettuce Wraps with Tahini will not disappoint. I love making this meal on busy days when I need something satisfying but don’t have much time.

With just a handful of simple ingredients, you’ve got yourself a meal that’s ready in just 15-20 minutes!

Turkey Lettuce Wraps

It’s a great way to sneak in some veggies while enjoying a delicious, protein-packed meal.

The best part is how customizable this recipe is. You can swap the ground turkey for chicken or even add extra veggies like water chestnuts or mushrooms to the filling.

Plus, the creamy tahini sauce really ties everything together, making these wraps a true crowd-pleaser.

What’s the Best Lettuce for Lettuce Wraps?

Bibb lettuce is my go-to for wraps because of its soft yet sturdy leaves.

If you don’t have Bibb, romaine, green leaf, or even iceberg lettuce can work—just choose leaves that can hold the filling without tearing.

Ingredients

  • Ground turkey - I love using lean ground turkey for these wraps—it’s packed with protein and has a lighter flavor that pairs beautifully with the tahini dressing. If you prefer, you can swap it out for ground chicken, beef, or pork.
  • Sweet potatoes - Grating sweet potatoes or carrots adds natural sweetness and a bit of texture to the filling. I often use whichever I have handy—they both work equally well!
  • Red onion - Red onion not only brings a pop of color but also adds a mild, sweet flavor. Feel free to use white or yellow onion if that’s what you have.
  • Lettuce leaves - Bibb lettuce is my favorite for wraps because of its soft, buttery texture and perfect cup shape. But romaine, iceberg, or even green leaf lettuce work well too—just pick sturdy leaves that can hold the filling.
  • Tahini sauce - The creamy tahini dressing is the star here! It’s nutty, tangy, and incredibly simple to whip up. If you’re out of tahini, you can experiment with almond butter or sunflower seed butter for a fun twist.
  • Garlic and seasonings - Freshly minced garlic and a touch of salt and pepper give the turkey filling a delicious savory base. You can even add a pinch of chili flakes if you like a little heat.

How To Make Turkey Lettuce Wraps

  1. Sauté the onion: Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the red onion and sauté for about 2 minutes until softened and fragrant.
  2. Cook the turkey: Add the ground turkey, season with salt and black pepper, and cook, breaking it into small pieces. Lower the heat, pour in the water, cover the skillet with a lid, and let it simmer for 5–10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
  3. Prepare the tahini dressing: While the turkey simmers, whisk together all the dressing ingredients in a bowl until smooth and creamy.
  4. Add the sweet potato: Stir the grated sweet potatoes into the turkey mixture, combining well. Cook for another minute or two until everything is heated through.
  5. Assemble and serve: Wrap the turkey and sweet potato mixture in lettuce leaves and drizzle with the tahini dressing. Enjoy!

Tips

  • Cool your filling. If you’re prepping ahead, let the turkey mixture cool before storing it to maintain the best texture and flavor.
  • Assemble fresh. Keep the lettuce leaves separate until serving so they stay crisp and fresh.
  • Add pineapple. For a sweet twist, I sometimes throw in a few chunks of pineapple—similar to my Sweet and Sour Chicken recipe. It adds a bright, tropical vibe that pairs perfectly with the tahini sauce.
  • Preheat the skillet. Make sure your pan is hot before adding the turkey to get a nice sear and develop more flavor.
  • Customize your wraps. Feel free to load these wraps with extra veggies or even drizzle a bit of sriracha on top if you love spice.

Freezing And Storing Instructions

  • To Store. Keep the turkey filling and tahini dressing separate in airtight containers. The turkey mixture will stay good in the fridge for up to 4-5 days, while the tahini dressing can last for about 5-7 days.
  • To Reheat. Reheat the turkey filling in a skillet or microwave, and drizzle the tahini dressing over it once it’s heated. Be sure not to store the lettuce wraps already assembled, as the lettuce leaves can get soggy from the turkey filling.

Turkey Wraps: FAQs

Can I freeze the turkey filling?

Yes! Let the filling cool completely, then store it in a freezer-safe container for up to two months.

Thaw overnight in the fridge and reheat in a skillet or microwave before serving.

Can I make these wraps ahead of time?

Absolutely! You can prepare the turkey filling and tahini sauce up to two days in advance.

Just keep everything stored separately in airtight containers in the fridge. Assemble the wraps fresh when you’re ready to serve to avoid soggy lettuce.

How do I add extra flavor?

If you want to take these wraps to the next level, try adding chopped mushrooms, shredded zucchini, or water chestnuts for extra texture and flavor.

You can also toss in some red pepper flakes or a splash of soy sauce for a bit of a kick.
