This smothered cabbage and sausage skillet keeps it simple yet flavorful with minimal ingredients.
Cut the cabbage into thick slices or large cubes. Halve the cabbage, remove the core, and slice into 1½-inch pieces. If too wide, cut slices in half.
In a medium skillet over medium heat, add oil and brown the sausages. Set aside.
Deglaze the skillet with a splash of water, removing excess browned bits if needed. Add cabbage, ½ cup water or broth, salt, pepper, and sugar.
Stir, cover, and simmer for 10-15 minutes over medium-low heat until slightly tender but still crunchy.
