INGREDIENTS

  • 1 ½ cup flour
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon sugar
  • ½ cup of warm water
  • 1 ½ tablespoon olive oil

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Measure out your ingredients. Prepare the baking sheet lined with parchment paper and dusted lightly with cornmeal or flour.
  • Combine salt, sugar and flour in a large mixing bowl. Whisk to combine.
  • Add warm water and oil. Whisk and stir to combine.
  • Transfer to even surface, add a bit of flour and start kneading the dough to form a ball. It takes about 3-5 minutes until the surface of the dough is almost smooth. Don’t worry if it’s not too smooth as it won’t affect the final result.
  • Next, roll the dough ball using a rolling pin to a long oval or round and to your desired thickness. Thick or thin - depends on the volume and how many people you need to feed. When preparing for a large family make it thinner and just about the size to fit the baking sheet.
  • Poke the surface of the flatbread all over with a fork. Top up with favorite toppings and transfer to baking sheet and place in the oven for about 10-15 minutes or until the surface of the flatbread or edges are becoming golden brown.
  • Decorate with fresh greens. Enjoy!

NOTES

This recipe makes one flatbread, two pieces each if divided for three people.
Storage. You can freeze the ready-made flatbread crust or just the dough. Wrap it up in a cling film and pop in the freezer. Just keep in mind you’ll need to let it thaw for about ½ hours before use.
Depending on your desired toppings - sweet or savory, add or remove sugar.
