If you’ve ever wondered how to make a juicy, tender steak in the air fryer—this is it! It’s quick, foolproof, and turns out so flavorful with minimal effort. Cooking steak in air fryer doesn't take long, just about 6-12 minutes depending on the thickness of your steaks!

Ingredients
- Ribeye steaks - When it comes to cuts, I usually reach for ribeye, striploin, or filet mignon. You want something tender with a bit of marbling for the juiciest bite.
- Garlic powder - Adds a nice kick without overpowering the steak.

How To Make Steak in Air Fryer
- Bring steaks to room temp: Let them sit out for 20-30 minutes so they cook evenly.
- Preheat the air fryer: Set it to 400°F (200°C) for about 5 minutes.
- Season the steaks: Pat them dry with paper towels, then rub with oil. Sprinkle on salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
- Air fry the steak: Place in the basket with space between. Flip halfway through!
Medium-rare: 6–8 minutes
Medium: 8–10 minutes
Well-done: 10–12 minutes
- Check the steak internal temp with a meat thermometer:
135°F for medium-rare
145°F for medium
160°F for well-done
- Let it rest: Remove from the air fryer and rest 5–10 minutes before slicing. This locks in the juices!
- Slice and serve: Slice against the grain into strips. Add your garlic butter or serve with a drizzle of soy sauce marinade for an Asian twist.
- If I’m making this a full meal, I’ll toss in some mushrooms with a little oil and garlic on the side—or do mashed or crispy potatoes, green beans, roasted veggies, or even serve it over rice.
Can you cook steak from frozen in the air fryer?
Yes, you can—but it takes a little longer. I usually add 5–8 extra minutes and make sure to flip halfway. That said, thawed steaks do cook more evenly, so I recommend it if you have the time.
Tips
- If you’ve got the time, marinate your steak! A quick soak in soy sauce, garlic, and Worcestershire for even 30 minutes can seriously boost the flavor. I sometimes let mine sit overnight if I’m planning ahead.
- Garlic butter on top? Always yes. It melts into the warm steak and adds that rich, buttery finish—perfect if you’re feeling fancy.
- Don’t skip the resting step. Seriously. Let the steak rest for 5–10 minutes after cooking—this is the secret to locking in all that juice!
- If you’re cooking for more than two, avoid crowding the air fryer. The steak needs space to sear, not steam. I cook in batches when needed.
- Want to change things up? Try steak bites! Just cut the steak into chunks and air fry them for 5–6 minutes. Great for bowls or salads.
- Do I need to flip the steak while it’s cooking?
Yep, definitely flip it! It helps get that nice crust on both sides. - Can I cook veggies in there too?
Yes, as long as your air fryer is roomy enough. Just make sure the veggies (like mushrooms or asparagus) are in a single layer so they cook evenly.
Freezing And Storing Instructions
- To Store. Place cooled steak slices in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
- To Reheat. Warm gently in the air fryer at 350°F or in a skillet with a bit of butter.
- To Freeze. Wrap cooked steak tightly in foil and freeze for up to 2 months. Thaw in the fridge before reheating.
- To Make Ahead. You can season the steak and refrigerate it up to 1 day ahead before cooking.
