Easy Pico De Gallo - A Classical Mexican freshly chopped tomato recipe, that is almost an essential part of the Mexican-style dinner table. It takes minutes to whip up and is perfect to serve with tacos, quesadillas, tortilla chips, and garnish grilled meat.
If you stumbled upon this post then you love Mexican food as much as I do, right?
I love to serve pico de gallo not only with Creamy Chicken Tacos, Crockpot Chicken Enchilada, Baked Chicken Taquitos, Vegetarian Enchiladas but on its own too, as a salad. Super easy and quick to make!
There are many variations of this recipe, but for me personally, the easier, the better.
This pico de gallo consists of tomatoes, jalapeno, and serrano peppers (but feel free to use only one type of pepper - jalapeno), plenty of cilantro, red onion (you can also use regular brown onion, fresh lime juice, and seasonings.

Pico De Gallo Ingredients
- Best Tomatoes for pico de gallo - high quality, ripe red tomatoes are best to use here. The ones which come with a strong aroma when you smell them. Heirloom, beefsteak, or even Roma tomatoes (plum) are a great choice.
- Seasonings - Lime juice, salt, and cracked black pepper. A little seasoning goes a long way with this easy tomato dip. For the lime juice, use fresh limes, try to avoid the store-bought as the taste will be quite different.
- Cilantro - the essential ingredient in most Mexican recipes. I know many people don't like it, and in this recipe, you can feel the flavor a lot. You can always leave it out, but pico de gallo will not be the same without it. Another alternative would be fresh parsley, oregano, or tarragon.
- Jalapeno & Serrano peppers - you can always adjust the amount to suit your preferences. If you like your tomato salsa to be extra hot, add a bigger jalapeno and double the amount of serrano pepper. For an even spicier version, try habanero peppers. If you’re a true spicy food lover, go for it!
- Red onion - onion is essential for flavor base in most of my dishes, especially Mexican-style recipes. Chopped red onion is a popular choice but to mix things up you can use brown onion and sweeter onions as an alternative.

- Garlic - I haven’t added garlic here but it gives a lot of interesting flavor to the pico de gallo. Many recipes do add it, but it’s optional.
