This High Protein Vanilla Date Smoothie is creamy, naturally sweet, and surprisingly filling for something that takes just a few minutes to make.
I've been making versions of this smoothie for years, and dates are still one of my favorite ways to sweeten smoothies naturally. The first time I added cashews instead of almond butter, I was honestly surprised by how creamy it turned out.

Julia's Why-You'll-Love-It List
- The combination of dates, vanilla protein powder, and cinnamon tastes almost like a milkshake. My boys have even stolen sips from my glass and asked what was in it.
- I also love that most of the ingredients live in my freezer or pantry, so I rarely need a special grocery trip.
Ingredients
- Medjool dates - These add natural sweetness and a caramel-like flavor. If your dates feel dry, soak them in warm water for 5-10 minutes first.
- Vanilla protein powder - I use vanilla because it works perfectly with the cinnamon and dates. Most vanilla protein powders work well here.
- Frozen banana - I always have bags of frozen chunks of banana in my freezer. I strongly prefer frozen banana over fresh because the smoothie comes out colder and thicker.
- Cashews - Cashews make the smoothest, creamiest smoothie. Almonds work too, but the texture won't be quite as silky.
- Bee pollen (optional) - A little hidden gem full of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. It won't affect the taste.
