Ingredients
- Ground pork - opt for lean ground pork or other ground meat or crumbled tofu.
- Vegetables - a mix of sliced mushrooms, broccoli, carrots, and onion works well. Feel free to use any quick-cooking veggies like snow peas, bell peppers, green beans, or bok choy.
- Cornstarch - thickens the sauce, providing a nice texture and helping it coat the pork and vegetables. Tapioca flour could also work.
- Chicken broth - chicken broth pairs exceptionally well with pork, offering a delicious flavor profile that surpasses beef broth or vegetable broth.
- Soy sauce - adds a salty umami flavor. Use low-sodium soy sauce or gluten-free tamari if necessary.
- Sesame oil - toasted sesame oil adds a strong sesame flavor and nutty, earthy taste.
- Mushrooms - I used shiitake mushrooms but you can use any, they are perfect for adding a little crunchy texture.
- Honey - adds a touch of sweetness to balance the flavors.
- The combination of ginger and garlic gives the sauce a flavorful punch.

Tips
- Oil note. Some suggest oils with a high smoke point, such as avocado or canola oil. Personally, I prefer olive oil and find that using medium-high heat on the stovetop is adequate for homemade stir-frying without burning the oil. However, depending on your heat settings, you may need to use other oils with high smoke points.
- Frozen or fresh veg. You can find frozen stir-fry vegetable blends easily in supermarkets, with combinations like snow peas, water chestnuts, mushrooms, baby corn, green beans, carrots, and others.
- Time saver. Pre-cut veggies save a lot of time - no need to spend an hour washing, peeling, and chopping!
Serving Suggestions
Simply serve it warm over your choice of brown rice, basmati rice, quinoa, noodles (lo mein, soba or rice noodles), or any other grain you prefer.
For a low-carb alternative, pair it with cauliflower rice, Asian coleslaw, sauteed asparagus or zucchini.
Freezing And Storing Instructions
- To Store. Pack the leftovers in an airtight container and refrigerate for 3 days.
- To Make Ahead. You can combine the sauce in a mason jar and refrigerate for up to 3 days. Just don't add the cornstarch just yet. Veggies can be pre-sliced and kept in containers in the fridge.

I was surprised at how well this turned out. I've made it twice; once exactly according to instructions and a second time I swapped the sauce out for a homemade peanut sauce, and I added frozen peas for some extra vegetables. Both were fantastic. I appreciate the minimal dishes that need to be done afterward. I got my own meat grinder and started making my own ground pork so I've been looking for recipes like this. It's a keeper!
