Ingredients
- Crushed tomatoes - the heart of this marinara sauce is canned crushed tomatoes, simmered with sautéed onion and garlic for extra flavor depth.
- Spices - a pinch of red pepper flakes adds a hint of heat, while dried Italian herbs bring that classic Italian taste.
- Salt + black pepper - and a touch of sugar bring all the flavors together perfectly.
- Optional add on - a splash of balsamic vinegar gives it a tangy kick.

Can I Substitute Fresh Tomatoes?
If you're thinking of using fresh tomatoes for your marinara sauce, just know it's going to take a bit more time. You'll have to blanch and peel those tomatoes before simmering them down until they're just right. It's a bit of extra work compared to using crushed tomatoes, but trust me, the flavor payoff is totally worth it!
