Tips How To Make The Best Meatballs in Tomato Sauce
- It is important not to overcook your meatballs as they will lose their texture and tenderness. If you’re afraid to overcook them then it’s better to undercook and then leave the meatballs to simmer in the sauce a bit longer.
- Ground meat - you can use any ground meat or a mix of ground meat. In this recipe, I've used my favorite blend - beef and pork ground meat.
- Use your hands for shaping - in my opinion, the easiest way and gives far the best results when it comes to perfectly formed round meatballs.
- If you are really short in time, you can put raw meatballs in tomato sauce to cook. But keep in mind, the end result will be different than cooking them first.
Serving Suggestions
The best option is to stick with the classic and simple sides like pasta/spaghetti, baked potato, mashed potato, or plain rice and a bowl of simple fresh salad.
All of these options go well with meatballs and are enough to feed and satisfy your family or guests. Here's more of my suggestions:
- Mashed Cauliflower and Potatoes
- Cabbage and Cucumber Salad With Dill
- Lime Cilantro Rice
- Garlic Mashed Potatoes With Cream Cheese
- Gluten Free Homemade Tater Tots
- Sweet Potato Fries With Truffle Oil
- Homemade Parmesan Truffle Fries

Variations and Substitutions
- Gluten-free - use gluten-free Panko crumbs or other gluten-free options.
- For the best flavor add grated parmesan or any other hard cheese on top of the same.
- Substitute beef and pork with ground chicken or turkey.
How To Store
Storage. Best consumed immediately but you can also place them in an airtight container along with some sauce. Let it cool completely. Freeze for 3-4 months.
