How To Make Spicy Hot Honey Shrimp
- In a small saucepan over medium heat, mix up the hot honey ingredients: honey, hot sauce, garlic, ginger, butter, soy sauce (if you’re using it), and red pepper flakes. Stir every now and then until it’s warmed through and slightly thickened.
- Heat a splash of sesame oil in a pan over medium-high heat. Toss in the shrimp and cook until they’re no longer pink—about 30 seconds per side.
- When the sauce is ready, pour it over the shrimp and toss until everything’s nicely coated. Squeeze half a lime over the top, and serve with rice and steamed veggies. Enjoy!
What Is The Secret To Juicy Shrimp?
The secret to juicy shrimp is cooking them quickly over high heat—just 30 seconds to 1 minute per side until they’re pink and opaque.
Overcooked shrimp will become tough and rubbery. Not good!
Expert Tips
- Adjust the heat. I like mine extra spicy, but you can easily control the heat by adding more or less hot sauce. Prefer something milder? Swap in sweet chili sauce or sprinkle in a pinch of cayenne for a gentle kick.
- Choose your hot sauce. Valentina and Sriracha are my favorites. No hot sauce? I’ve used chili garlic sauce, sambal oelek, and even sriracha when I’m in a pinch. Customize the spiciness to your liking.
- Check your local Japanese market for Spicy Sriracha mayo, it is so good to drizzle on top!
- Cooking tip. I always make sure the pan is hot before adding shrimp. It helps them sear quickly and keeps them from turning rubbery.
Serving Suggestions
These Hot Honey Salmon Bites are incredibly versatile. Here’s how to pair them for a complete meal:
- Rice or quinoa - Try my lime cilantro rice, broccoli rice or cauliflower rice.
- Hot Honey Shrimp Pasta - Soba, rice noodles, or even ramen work perfectly.
- Vegetable sides - Roasted broccoli, glazed carrots, or sautéed green beans add color and crunch.
- Salad - Asian cucumber salad, cabbage slaw, pickled daikon radish.
- Potatoes - Try it with roasted Korean potatoes or sweet potato fries for a fun twist.
- Add them to tacos and serve along simple slaw similar to my grilled shrimp tacos.
Freezing And Storing Instructions
- To Store. If you have leftovers (which doesn’t happen often at my house!), store them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
- To Freeze. If you want to save some for later, freeze the shrimp in an airtight container for up to 2 months. I let mine thaw overnight in the fridge before reheating.
- To Reheat. Reheat gently in a skillet over medium-low heat or in the microwave for 1-2 minutes.
Meal Prepping Spicy Hot Honey Shrimp
If you can resist eating these Spicy Shrimp straight from the pan (I know, it’s tough), just like Hot Honey Salmon bites, they’re fantastic for meal prep.
They stay juicy and flavorful and make busy weeknights way easier.
Here’s how to meal prep like a pro:
- Cook and Cool – Let the shrimp cool slightly after cooking to avoid steam buildup.
- Portion and Store – Divide the shrimp into meal prep containers with rice, noodles, or roasted veggies. Drizzle extra hot honey glaze on top for even more flavor.
- Reheat and Enjoy – When it’s time to eat, microwave for 1-2 minutes or reheat gently in a skillet until warmed through.
Meal prepping these shrimp means sweet, spicy, and satisfying dinners are always ready when you are!
