Tinto de Verano Ingredients
- Red wine - Feel free to use your favorite Spanish red wine for this cocktail. Vermouth and Pinot Noir are also great options. Spanish wine from the Grenache or Tempranillo red grape variety is famous for traditional sangria.
- Lemon-lime soda (or sparkling water) - Sparkling water, soda water, or Sprite combined with lemonade is another option for this red wine and lemon soda cocktail. I have yet to try lemon Fanta, but it could work. If you have access to the Spanish soda, La Casera, go ahead and use that!
- Fresh strawberries - Add fresh citrus, such as lemon and orange slices, to this wine and soda drink.
- Ice cubes - Perfect to keep this wine-based beverage chilled.
- Fresh mint leaves - These are optional, although they add a lovely bit of garnish to this summer drink.
📋 You can find the full ingredient list in the Recipe Card below the article.
Can I Use Frozen Strawberries Instead of Fresh Ones?
Only use frozen strawberries if you can't source fresh strawberries.
Fresh fruit adds the most vibrant color and flavor to any drink. The same applies if you choose to add the lemon and orange.

Tinto de Verano Drink Tips
- Alcohol level - Make the Tinto de Verano recipe non boozy or with less alcohol. You can reduce or swap the red wine for non-alcoholic red wine or fruit juice (red grape or pomegranate juice works amazing!). You can also increase the alcohol with more red wine!
- Serving size - While this wine cocktail recipe makes one single serving, you can easily double the number of ingredients for a crowd. Use a large pitcher when serving to a large crowd at a party. Pour the wine into the jug and right before serving to guest add ice cubes and soda + garnishes.
- Sweetness - Increase the sweetness in this Spanish red wine cocktail by adding sugar or a simple syrup.
- Presentation - Get creative and serve this Spanish wine cocktail with a different assortment of fresh berries and citrus fruit (peach, orange and lemon slices), or rim the individual glasses with sugar and white wine.
