Ingredients
- Tahini - This creamy sesame paste is the heart of the dressing, giving it a rich, nutty flavor. I love using a nice, runny tahini for the best texture.
- Oil - A little bit of good quality olive oil makes the dressing smooth and helps bring all the flavors together.
- Lemon - Fresh lemon juice adds a bright, tangy flavor that really wakes up the dressing.
- Mustard - This adds a little tang and helps make the dressing nice and smooth.
- Sweetener - A touch of sweetness from agave or maple syrup balances out the tangy and savory flavors. I usually go with what I have on hand, and both work great. You can't skip this, the dressing will not be the same without this!
- Garlic - Always fresh, not jarred stuff!

How To Make Tahini Dressing
- Press the garlic and add it to a bowl or jar along with the other ingredients, starting with ¼ cup of water. Shake or whisk until well combined.
- If the dressing is too thick, stir in the additional 2 tablespoons of water, or more if needed, to reach your desired consistency.
- Taste and adjust the flavors as needed. If the tahini tastes a bit bitter, a touch more maple syrup can balance it out. Drizzle over your favorite salad and enjoy!
Tips
- Tahini choice. Tahini butters vary. If you’re using a thicker tahini, just add a little more water to achieve your desired consistency.
- Adjusting the thickness. Start with ¼ cup of water and gradually add any extra, depending on your tahini and how thick or thin you want the dressing.
- Balancing the flavors. Tahini can sometimes be a little bitter, so if you find the dressing too bitter, you can adjust with a touch more sweetener and lemon juice to balance out the flavor.
- Garlic level. The garlic is a key component here, but if you prefer a more subtle garlic taste, you can press fewer cloves. If you’re a garlic lover, go ahead and add more!
What to Serve With Tahini Dressing
This tahini dressing is incredibly versatile! Here are my favorite ideas for how I love to enjoy this:
Grilled Chicken or Tofu: Pair this creamy dressing with grilled protein for a simple, satisfying meal.
Salads: Drizzle it over mixed greens, chopped vegetables, or a hearty kale salad.
Grain Bowls: It’s the perfect topping for quinoa, farro, or brown rice bowls. Add some roasted veggies, a sprinkle of nuts or seeds, and you’ve got a nutritious meal.
Roasted Vegetables: Try it with roasted carrots, baked sweet potatoes, cabbage, eggplant or cauliflower.
Wraps: Use it as a dressing or sauce in wraps, chicken, or falafel.
Storing Leftover Dressing
This tahini dressing can be made ahead and stored in the fridge for up to a week. Just keep it in an airtight container.
The dressing may thicken slightly when refrigerated, so simply stir in a little water to bring it back to your preferred consistency.
